FIRST Lego League (FLL) is a program for middle school students.

The goal is to teach young students about the funamentals of science and technology. Robots are created using Lego Mindstorms to complete an array of challenges on a game mat four feet by eight feet. Teamwork is an important part of the process, each team member must collaborate to design and build a robot together. Programming is fairly simple, aiming to teach the fundamentals of loops, functions, and conditional logic. Robots can use sensors including light sensors to follow lines, utrasonic to measure distance, touch sensors, and more.

In addition to the robot, a relevant research project is required. This year's FLL challenge title is "Animal Allies". For this year, FLL teams must work together to research and learn about animals and the environment they live in, and be able to present about their findings. The presentation can be a posterboard, or a skit, or any other creative method to try and impress the judges.
